2 Thessalonians 3

1. Finally, brothers, pray for us that God's message may not be limited and that it may bring Him glory, just as it was with you

Paul knows that he needs God's help to share the Gospel clearly. A message that is prepared in the mind will speak to another mind. A message that is prepared in your spirit will speak to the spirit of those who are hearing.

I keep my body in subjection so that having preached to others I would not be put on the shelf. 1 Corinthians 9:27

2. And that we would be delivered from twisted, evil men. Not all men have faith, but God is faithful.

Twisted men will waste your time with stupid questions. They are not wanting to hear the answer to their questions, but they just want to spread their ideas. Remember, not every question they bring deserves to be answered.

Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will also be like him. Proverbs 26:4

A fool does not delight in understanding, But only in revealing his own mind.
Proverbs 18:2

3. The Lord is faithful and He will protect you and make you stronger than the evil one.

Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4. See also Psalm 91, 1 Timothy 1:12.

4. The Lord gives us confidence about you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we have taught you.

This kind of confidence can only come when Christians have a real connection in their spirits.

Since there is a fellowship of the Spirit... Philippians 2:1

5. May the Lord guide your hearts into more of the love of God and the endurance of Christ

Some experts translate this "and into the patience of Christ."

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1

6 – 7

We command you, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, separate yourself from any brother who lives in an undisciplined life, which is not in the way that we taught you.

You know that you should follow our example because we did not live an undisciplined life when we were with you.

An undisciplined life is a hopeless life.

“Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die.” Isaiah 22:13

8. We did not eat anyone's food without paying for it, but we got a job and worked day and night so that we would not have to ask any of you for anything.

We see here what kind of job he most likely had:

...he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them. Acts 18:3

9 – 10

We could have asked you for what we needed, but we wanted to set an example for you.

When we were with you, we taught you that if any man will not work he should not eat.

Proverbs has many verses which show us the life of a lazy man.

The lazy person says, “There's a lion on the road! Yes, I'm sure there's a lion out there!” Proverbs 26:13

11 – 12

Now we hear that some who are with you are leading an undisciplined life and not working and not minding their own business.

Our command to these men, in fact, we beg them by the Lord Jesus Christ, to get a job and eat the food that they have earned for themselves.

The lazy person's desire for sleep will destroy him   because he refuses to work. Proverbs 21:25

13. But for the rest of you, my brothers do not get tired of doing good!

Do not be weary in well doing for in due season you will reap if you do not faint.
Galatians 6:9

14 - 15

If anyone refuses to obey the instructions in this letter, make a note of that man and separate yourself from him so that he may be ashamed.
But do not treat him as an enemy -encourage him as a brother.

Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any sin, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Galatians 6:1

16. Now may the Lord of peace personally give you peace always. The Lord be with all of you!

And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. John 14:27

17 – 18

I, Paul, am writing this greeting with my own hand, and this is my mark on all my letters. This is how I write. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you!

Paul signed all of his letters so that the churches could be sure that they were receiving a real letter from Paul. See Galatians 6:11
